Sheet-fed Printing

In this process pre-cut sheets of the material to be printed are fed directly into the printer, rather than coming from a continuous reel as it is in web-offset.

It is a lithographic print method for printing high quality images and text where ink is not applied directly from the printing plate (or cylinder) to the substrate as it is in gravure. Ink is applied to the printing plate to form the "image" (such as text or artwork to be printed) and then transferred or "offset" to a rubber "blanket". The image on the blanket is then transferred to the substrate (typically paper or board thinner than 700 microns) to produce the printed product.

This process is used for producing brochures, leaflets, stationary and posters where the run quantity or material (usually between 80gsm - 400gsm) suits.

There is a wide range of sheetfed presses from single colour A4 size through to 12 colour B1 size presses which allow you to print 8 pages of A4 double sided upto 6 colours per side in 1 pass through the press.

Sheetfed Printing is also widely used for large format printing with some presses now able to print sheet sizes upto 2 meters x 1.6 meters not only on paper but also on PVC using UV stable inks which help in curing the ink to the sheet.
