Gravure Printing
Unlike offset printing, gravure printing is a direct printing process where printing cylinders are created from the artwork and carry the image directly to the paper. The set up cost of a gravure press is typically very high due to the cost of the cylinders. However, if the print run is expected to be long, the investment can be worthwhile.
While not as common as sheet fed and web offset litho printing, gravure does have several benefits. It's suitable for long run projects. It also typically allows for better saturation of colour and, because of the possible large size of its printing cylinders, can print very large formats including items like posters and vinyl floor coverings.
