2021 at the Yellow Shed
By Webmart
Now we’ve kickstarted 2022, we wanted to look back over some of the successes which came out of our Yellow Shed over 2021.
It certainly was a busy one for us: we celebrated our 25th birthday, created exciting new services to support automated and sustainable marketing and we grew our team by bringing on several shiny new Webmarteers, to name but a few.
Read on to see some of the highlights of the year….
Invested in our sustainability
Back in 2020, we committed to our 20-year re-wilding programme in our 164-acre Oxygen Farm in Scotland. 2021 saw us full steam ahead with the process, planting thousands of trees and creating over 20 natural ponds to attract local wildlife and create safe habitats.

Oxygen Farm
We had our scope 1 and 2 emissions independently assessed and offset that as part of the staggering 100+ metric tonnes of CO2e we offset last year. This all went to support some incredible schemes abroad, including the creation of clean cookstoves to support communities in Rwanda, funding economy-stimulating wind energy farms in India, and supporting native bamboo afforestation in Nicaragua.
Internally, we moved sustainability to the top of our agenda by appointing Helen as our very first Finance and Sustainability Director.
And of course, we are proud to support the electric revolution, having activated a total of 12 car charging points across our sites and starting to transition our fleet over to EVs.
Award-winning
We were among the first ten organisations who were awarded JICMail Platinum status. The Joint Industry Committee for Mail offers extensive data-driven insights on how mail is engaged with in the home. As a JICMAIL Platinum Partner, we now use those insights improve the performance of our customers’ mail campaigns.
In December, we celebrated winning Silver at the National SME Awards for Business of the Year with fewer than 50 employees. Soon after, we closed the year with a People Insight Outstanding Workplace Award for our top-quartile independent employee survey results, which saw us score a fantastic 91%.
New services
Excitingly, we launched new data, creative and sustainable marketing services to our customers.
One of these new services was a world first: Enviromail, our climate positive postage and distribution solution.
Through Enviromail, we reduce, calculate and offset twice the carbon footprint of our customers’ mail campaigns. Even though we only launched half way through the year, it’s already resulted in a whopping 6 million climate positive mail items sent in 2021 alone – that’s over 50 tonnes of carbon (or equivalent) offset through accredited schemes to date!
B Corp
After many months of hard work from the team, we became part of the B Corporation community!
B Corps are organisations who believe business should be a force for good in society and who strive to focus on equity, interdependence and regeneration, and using their profits for good. Well known B Corps include household names like The Body Shop, Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia and Cook.
Charitable giving & the Webmart Christmas Game
Over the course of 2021, several of our Webmarteers took a (paid) day out from work and volunteered at their chosen local charity or community cause, taking along with them a £250 donation from Webmart’s community and charitable cash pot.
We also supported our local communities with food parcels for disadvantaged families.
At Christmas, we ran our Webmart Christmas Game again, which saw our top five high scorers win £1000 donations to CALM, African Children’s Fund (who came up twice!), The Motivation & Learning Trust and The Alex Bolt Foundation.
In total, we were able to donate a total of £23,000 to charities and other worthy causes!
