09 Mar It’s B Corp Month
It’s B Corp month! Time to see what’s behind the B.
The month of March is B Corp month – and our very first as a certified B Corp.
This year, businesses throughout the community will be celebrating what goes on #BehindTheB by opening their doors to show everyone a little more about what it means to be a B Corp.
Alongside this, lots of exciting things are happening throughout the month, including a pop-up shop in the heart of London showcasing some of the incredible brands that are part of the B Corp community. You can find it at 10a Rathbone Place.
You can also find B Corp product range displays in Waitrose and travel WHSmith stores.
So, what is a B Corp?
Certified B Corps are companies who are verified by B Labs to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. These companies are purpose driven and use business as a force for good.
The process to becoming a B Corp is challenging and thorough, but very rewarding. You are assessed on the impact of all areas of business, including governance, workers, communities, customers, suppliers and the environment. You’re given a score, and to be a B Corp, you must score higher than 80 points. Any business can do the B Impact Assessment to measure your impact and see opportunities to improve (even if you don’t want to go ahead with certification!) – you can find the BIA here.
We’re so happy to be one of 600 UK-based B Corps, with a total community of 4500 globally. It’s one of the highest standards for responsible business around.
The Community
Our B Corp journey started long before we got certified towards the end of last year, but we are super proud of where we are now – and this is only the start.
Since becoming a B Corp, we’ve met numerous other B Corps and aspiring B Corps across all kinds of areas. We’ve supported the launch of the Yorkshire B Corp community, which officially launched on 3rd March. It’s a fantastic network of organisations supporting one another in the drive to continuously improve.
Likewise, we’re very involved in the Oxfordshire B Corp community. In fact, our MD Richard did a brief talk at their March event, about what it means to be a B Corp. See Richard’s post about the event here.
Richard also spoke about being a B Corp at the Boss Federation Leader’s Of The Future conference. You can view Richard’s post about this here.
